Engine Tanker 503

Engine-Tanker 503 is a fire engine that carries an extra large amount of water to help make up for the fact we live in a rural area with almost no fire hydrants.  Engine-Tanker 503 carries 2500 gallons of water and a “folding-tank” which opens up similar to a small above ground swimming pool acting as a dynamic water supply.  Water in the “folding-tank” is drafted out by a designated fire engine which is supplying water to crews inside a burning dwelling or building through “attack lines” that can flow over 100 gallons a minute.  Water in the folding tank is constantly being replenished by massive tankers similar to Engine 503 that line up one after the other to dump their load of water as soon as possible.  A 3000 gallon folding tank can be emptied in as little as 3 minutes!  So where does an engine-tanker go when it dumps its load of water into the folding tank to get refilled?  Tanker Support 504!

Medic 505

Medic 505 is Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Company’s first medic unit. It is equipped with a Life Pack 15, a Ferno power stretcher which can carry a patient up to 500 pounds in weight and is even set up to tow SORT 50 to any mass casualty incident! The unit is also equipped with HID scene lights to give our responders maximal visibility and even comes outfitted with a backup camera. A Tough Book laptop is also installed which gives our health care providers instant access to the Baltimore County Dispatch Center as well as a integrated GPS and new digital maps.

Tanker Support 504

Tanker support 504 is specialty piece of equipment designed to draft water from rural water sources such as ponds, streams, lakes and if needed, swimming pools.  504 will pool up to a rural water supply, drop a “hard sleeve” into the water, and proceed to “draft” the water out through a pump in the unit using “negative pressure”.  Once the draft is established, the water will our the back of the unit through “supply lines” that can fill up to four Engine- Tankers at a time! TSU 504 carries 4 sections of “hard sleeves” that can be hooked together into the front pump to allow up to 40’ of extension into a water source.

Brush 502

502 is one of the oldest active pieces of fire apparatus in Baltimore County, MD built in 1953.  502 was initially a weapons carrier for the Military that was converted to a “brush unit” by Maurice Long.   This brush unit (brush unit is a term for a piece of fire equipment designated to fight woods/brush fires) is tourqued extremely low, and therefore able to travel over rough terrain reaching the fire where other units would simply not reach.  Chestnut Ridge plans to keep Brush 502 in our arsenal for as long as the fire company is in service.

Medical Support 507

507 is the first ALS (Advanced Life Support) support unit in Baltimore County.   This unit carries everything a Medical Transport Unit would inventory, but does not transport. 507 is called to all Car Accidents, medical incidents, and supports fire ground operations by transporting additional personnel.

SORT 50

SORT 50 is a 24 foot cargo trailer that was created with one thing in mind: mass casualty/injury. The trailer comes equipped to handle up to 240 walking wounded or up to 125 trauma patients. Features include 25 Adult Backboards, 5 Pediatric Backboards, and the required immobilization equipment that goes with them. It carries Mass Casualty Deployment Kits, Command Post Accountability equipment, large quantities of trauma equipment as well as other necessities for dealing with large volumes of patients. SORT 50 also carries onboard a 10KW Generator, power distribution and tripod lighting. Additional rescue tools onboard include hard hats, rescue ropes, and drinking water. This piece can be trailed behind Tanker Support 504 or Utility 507.

ATV 50

ATV 50 is a 6X6 Polaris Ranger ATV that can be carried inside of the SORT 50 trailer. It carries a skid tank, which holds 75 gallons of water and class “A” forestry foam. It can be used for patient transport and is equipped with a winch, GPS, and a Stokes Basket. This piece is excellent for access into hard to reach and limited access areas.
